What should you do?

August 19, 2008 by idhelper

Don't ever give out your personal information (I.E. bank account, credit card number/information, address, social security number, driver's license, etc.) over the phone, unless you initiated the call and know that the company is trustworthy. Do not provide any personal details to anyone who calls, even it if is supposedly a company you do business with who is claiming to have encountered computer problems, has lost your information and needs you to provide it again, or verify it. Legitimate companies, with whom you have business relations, will not ask you for personal information over the phone.

Essentially, if a solicitation call sounds suspicious, or too wonderful, always tell the caller you are not interested and hang up the phone. It's also a good idea to find out more about a telemarketer by looking up the number online to see if others have complained and if it is associated with a scam.
